What can you do with 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points?

A few lucky folks have been getting targeted for a 100,000 point sign-up bonus from the IHG Rewards Club. The spending requirement is $1,000 higher than the normal 60,000 point offer and the 2 free night bonus, but that’s a drop in the bucket for most of us.

I personally like these point offers versus free night bonuses, since they offer more flexibility in terms of redemptions. Also, since cardholders get an automatic 10% rebate on point stays, that means the sign-up bonus can go even further.

Factor in the points earned after meeting the $2,000 spending requirement, plus 5,000 points for adding an authorized user, and we’re looking at a total of 107,000 IHG points earned from this card (117,700 if you consider the 10% rebate). So what can you do with 107,000 IHG points? A whole lot!

IHG Free Nights

IHG Rewards Club’s award chart ranges from 5,000 points per night for a PointBreaks hotel to 60,000 points for a night at a top-tier Category 11 hotel. With the 60,000 point bonus, you could redeem 1 – 12 free nights.

The 100,000 point bonus allows you to redeem 1 – 20 free nights. In fact, if you put a bit more spending on the card, you’ll have enough for two free nights at a top-tier hotel.

Points Requierd for IHG Hotel Categories

5,000 points = 20 free nights at an IHG PointBreaks Hotel

10,000 points = 10 free nights at an IHG Category 1 Hotel

15,000 points = 6 free nights at an IHG Category 2 Hotel

20,000 points = 5 free nights at an IHG Category 3 Hotel

25,000 points = 4 free nights at an IHG Category 4 Hotel

30,000 points = 3 free nights at an IHG Category 5 Hotel

35,000 points = 2 free nights at an IHG Category 6 Hotel

40,000 points = 2 free nights at an IHG Category 7 Hotel

45,000 points = 2 free nights at an IHG Category 8 Hotel

50,000 points = 2 free nights at an IHG Category 9 Hotel

55,000 points = 1 free night at an IHG Category 10 Hotel

60,000 points = 1 free night at an IHG Category 11 Hotel

Free nights vs. Points

This 100,000 point sign-up bonus will get you more free nights and is especially useful in light of the addition of two new categories to IHG’s award chart. Looking for a sign-up bonus that gets you two or more free nights at a top-tier hotel? Unfortunately, this 100,0000 point sign-up bonus lags behind the old 2 Free Nights offer. That would be much more useful now that a top-tier free night award requires 60,000 IHG points.

Nonetheless, it’s the best offer at the moment and if you’ve been targeted for it, I recommend applying for it. Aside from the 100,0000 point sign-up bonus, the IHG card is also great for its annual free night. It has no category restrictions and with a $49 annual fee, it’s a no-brainer.

IHG Platinum Status

“IHG Platinum is useless” gets thrown around quite a lot, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. I’ve been upgraded at IHG hotels as a lowly CLUB member, while checking in as a Platinum member always got me a better room and some kind of acknowledgement. Compare that to Hyatt, where half the time I had to submit a request to get my Diamond welcome amenity bonus credited.

Check your email to see whether you’ve been targeted for the 100,000 point IHG Rewards card sign-up bonus. I received an email offer, but for some reason, I’m able to enter all the information except for my first name into the appropriate boxes. I tried opening up the same page on Firefox but that didn’t work either.

Thankfully, the email does contain an invitation code, so I’ll just call before November 11 to apply via phone. Adding that to my to-do list as we speak…

Have you been targeted for a 100,000 point sign-up bonus for the IHG Rewards Club MasterCard? How do you plan on redeeming your sign-up bonus?

  2. I luv this card too, just redeemed 2 anniv nights in Paris, both ihg 300+ euro cash otherwise. Lucky of omaat speculate the perk will change soon.

  3. Interesting. I’ve been getting an 80,000 point offer for the past few months. 80 for $1000 spend, then 80 for $1000 spend, last 80 for $2000 spend. Um… NO!!!! It looks like I’ll wait for the 100,000. Only reason I don’t have it is cause I’ve been refinancing.
