The Maldives is as aspirational as travel gets. Even on points, the Maldives is an expensive destination. On top of airfare to Male, seaplane transfer (which runs upwards of $500 per person RT), meals, and activities, there is the obligatory paid upgrade to an overwater villa. That can easily cost an extra $350/night.
Beach House Iruveli (formerly the Waldorf Astoria Maldives) offers 1,000 sqft overwater villas with pool, daily breakfast, and free wifi, starting at $334/night, which is quite a bargain.
This rate is on par with the upgrade fee at the Park Hyatt Maldives. Except you don’t have to spend any points. At high-end resorts, you’ll be lucky to pay $344/night for a beach villa. Let alone a water villa with a pool.
I searched a few random dates in June and the water villa was available for $374/night, a slight markup. The number of rooms bookable with this rate is limited, so if you’re sure about your travel dates, I’d book fast.
The hotel website shows a rate of $444/night, so you’re looking at substantial savings over a week-long stay.
Keep in mind the resort does have a seaplane transfer fee, though I was unable to get a number in time for this post. This can run around $400.
