With Uber’s rapid worldwide expansion, more travelers are opting out of traditional methods of transportation in favor of the ease and convenience offered by Uber. Trips to and from the airport can be cheaper and more easily arranged than hailing a cab. While a number of airports prohibit Uber airport pickups, there have been numerous ways passengers and Uber drivers have gotten around it: Arranging pickups in nearby parking lots, the arrival area, having passengers sit in the front seat, etc.
Still, I figured it would be helpful to have a list of cities that allowed Uber drivers to pick up passengers at the airport. In trying to figure this out, I realized there wasn’t a single list out there. So I decided to put one together.
An Uber representative directed me to the Uber cities page and explained that every city with a flat fare for airport pickups was a good indicator of which cities allowed it. On the other hand, if the city listed a flat fare from the city to the airport only, it meant Uber pickups were not allowed.
So I spent hours going through every city page, as well as double-checking the Uber blog to come up with a complete list. Of the 224 cities served by Uber, only 58 allow official Uber pickups at the airport.
Uber Airport Pickup in North America
Out of the 128 North American cities Uber operates in, just 19 of them allow airport pickup – that’s less than 15% of the cities on the list. This is far less than in any other region. The same goes for the number of cities for which Uber offers a flat fare for airport drop-off: There are just two that offer this.
While Denver doesn’t list a flat rate airport pick-up fee, according to this blog post, Uber began operating out of Denver International Airport in September 2014. The average fare between DIA and downtown Denver is $36-49.
Washington DC also doesn’t list flat fares for airport pickup, something that will change with the passing of the Vehicle-for-Hire Innovation Act. Until that happens, Uber can be requested at Reagan National Airport (DCA) from Terminal B and C. Uber drivers can pick up passengers on the second curb at the arrivals level.
At Washington Dulles International (IAD), drivers can pick up passengers in the hourly parking area. Baltimore Washington International (BWI) is the only airport in the area where passengers can be picked up directly in the arrivals area.
Aside from these exceptions, Uber drivers can pick up passengers at airports in the following cities:
- Atlanta
- Charlotte
- Dallas
- Denver
- Halifax
- Honolulu
- Jacksonville
- Las Vegas (UberX, UberXL, UberSELECT)

Uber Airport Pickup in Europe, Middle East & Africa
In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Uber offers airport pickup in 16 of 48 cities. This includes some of the busiest airports in Europe. The Middle East and Africa are way behind, with each region offering just 1-2 cities in which airport pickups are officially allowed.

This is what I was able to scrounge up with the information Uber gave me, along with my own research. I will be updating this list as more cities join the herd and begin allowing drivers to pick up passengers from the airport. If there is any city missing from this list, please share it in the comment section.
As a reminder, Uber is offering $30 off your first ride when you sign up by November 23, 2014. After that, it will drop to $20. If you use my referral link, we will both earn a free ride worth upwards of $30.
Be sure to also check out the list of airports where Lyft pickup is allowed.
Can we use a US based Uber aaccount to use Uber in Europe? Also if I have an Amex card linked to my profile, then will I be charged a foreign tansaction fees?
You can use your AMEX card for UBER abroad. You will be charged in the local currency and if your AMEX card charges foreign transaction fees, this will also be charged. Best to find a credit card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees.
Chennai, formerly Madras India needs to be on that list.
As well as that little city called Chicago who allows pickups at it’s airport starting after this article was written.
Only UberTaxi is legally allowed to pick up at the airport.
Also add ABQ to the list. They do both pickup and drop off.
I don’t know if it’s “officially” allowed, but I take Uber home from LaGuardia every time I fly there
Is there a specific place that Uber picks you up at LGA? Thanks
There is a cool trick where you can just move the pin and get a ride even if the airport is blocked. Use it at ORD all the time. http://blog.shoptravelmore.com/how-to-use-uber-for-pickup-at-the-airport/
Sorry, but Atlanta isn’t allowing airport pickups until July 2015 at the soonest, and probably not until the Fall.
Yep, I had an Uber driver the other day tell me that APD was issuing citations to Uber/Lyft drivers at ATL.
Pittsburgh now, too.
What about Australia?
I don’t believe Uber is able to pick up at MSY. They can drop off, but I don’t think they can pick up.
I was just picked up a few weeks ago at Fort Lauderdale airport
Did the driver pick you up at arrivals? If not, then it’s not considered a legal pickup. Of course, drivers do it anyway and Uber doesn’t discourage it.
Bull…Uber drivers are not allowed (esp. African American women ) to wait at Airport now as of April 2016…they are harassed by Africa American cops.
If airport picks ups are not allowed will customers be blocked from requesting a pick up?
Most of the time, Uber won’t even allow you to request a ride if they’re not approved at an airport.
Add BOS to the list of airports where Uber picks up. Using UberX, they route drivers with Livery Plates to the “Limo” pickup area to comply with regulations, same price as regular UberX, aside from the tunnel tolls.
Thanks for the heads up Will! I’ll be updating this post shortly.
Can I get a ride with uber from Newark airport to Easton pa
At the moment, Newark doesn’t officially allow Uber pickups.
