Earn free airline tickets to Hawaii with the Hawaiian Airlines toolbar

Update: As of November 17, 2015 the Hawaiin Airlines MileFinder’s search function has been discontinued.

It’s surprising how many people don’t know about the Hawaiian Airlines Toolbar. As discussed in my previous post, toolbars are great for earning bonus points on purchases, but many also have search bars, which let you earn 1 mile per 3 searches. Typically earnings are restricted to 100 miles per month, but Hawaiian lets you earn a whopping 5,000 miles every month!

To earn the maximum 5,000 miles, you will have to perform 500 searches per day. Through regular searching, I can easily earn 1,000 miles per month. With a bit of effort, I’ve earned 5,000. This is a great way to earn a ton of FREE miles every month for something you’re doing anyway.

If you really go for it, you can earn enough miles for a one-way ticket from the West Coast to Hawaii in just four months! Miles can also be redeemed for domestic travel on the mainland and internationally on Korean, All Nippon, Virgin Australia, and more. I plan on using my miles for a trip to Maui either in December or April. Award availability (both domestic and international) is excellent, with lots of open seats for last-minute and future bookings.

One thing I want to warn you about is that duplicate searches will not count. Searching for the same phrase over and over will prompt an “invalid search” message to appear.

I have a list of unique search terms set aside, which makes it easy to avoid duplicate searches when I’ve got a bit of time on my hands for a search marathon.

Some people have mentioned ways to manipulate the system in order to generate searches. This will not only get the program shut down, but you will likely get your account closed and lose all of your miles. Remember the Principles of Travel Hacking #3: Mile-earning activities should be beneficial to both hackers and businesses alike.

@ Joe, you will still receive miles after 1000, they just don’t appear in the counter. Keep searching and your miles will post every week.
