Since card pickings have been pretty slim lately, I can thank my dad and grandfather for serving in the U.S. Navy and making me eligible to join Navy Federal Credit Union.
Both Katy and I have the Navy Federal More American Express Card and use it constantly for the 3X at grocery stores. With our 4X Amex Gold Cards, we have reached our $25K limit for this year.
At 3X minus fees for card purchase and money orders, I can pick up about $35 net twice a week with the close proximity of the best grocery stores close to our home (one stop at each store). I buy two $500 Visa gift cards at each store with each card and have had no problems to date.
The time invested is about 30-40 minutes per trip, including liquidation of money orders and mobile depositing them to our banks. That card is great for us for long-term activity.
The Navy Federal Cash Rewards Card only pays 1.5% cash back on all purchases but offers an easy $250 sign-up bonus after $2,500 of spending in the first 90 days. There is no annual fee for this card.
A month ago, I wrote that I wouldn’t get this card for the then-$200 bonus. Times have changed, and there are no obvious larger sign-up bonuses in sight. Well, I admit, I’m addicted to the game.
This card is NOT a long-term player. When we hit the $2,500 spending requirement, the cards will hit the sock drawer and stay there as there, again, is no annual fee.
I found the link in a Doctor of Credit post and HT him here for the quick and easy $500 for the two cards. Here is the link to the offer.
Become a Navy Federal Credit Union member
Remember you must be a member of Navy Federal Credit Union to apply. Go to this page to see which of the eligibility requirements you may meet.
We are extremely happy members. The rewards are easily transferred into their savings accounts or used as a credit against existing charges.
Take a look for yourself. Oh, and just FYI, Katy was approved for a line of $21,100 and I got a minuscule $5,300. Not that it really matters other than my pride and ego get bruised when this happens
Slim pickings indeed! But I did secure an AAdvantage card from citi a few weeks ago thanks to your earlier post. For some reason it came to my dog???? Thanks for the tip.
I also only buy one gc per store but I have a string to choose from.
Always need supervisor override for 500s. Recently a supervisor said cash only. I asked if she had her own policy separate from corporate. She got upset and adamant.
I asked for manager (lucky no line). He came over and told her to turn the key. There was no separate policy.
Get these rogue supervisors every once in awhile (always women, don’t know why?). I used to back down but not anymore.

BTW, having troubles posting comments on this site. Many times don’t post.

Very difficult to get new cards these days. But I did get one a few weeks ago due to your earlier post on Citi. For some strange reason the offer came to my dog. Thanks for the tip.
I did get a new cc recently due to one of your earlier posts. But for some reason the offer came to my dog?
Thanks for the tip!
My dog got a recent offer for a new cc that I was able to take advantage of. Thanks for the earlier tip!
I hope the dog gets approved and starts right out flying FC 😉
Finally earning his keep, huh?
Rick, which grocery stores are you getting your cards from? Are they always metabank? Thanks, John
Kroger and always Meta
Thanks, We so need a Kroger up here in Beaufort.
Last night I was approved for the Alliant Visa, with an unbelievable 3% cash back on EVERYTHING the first year and 2.5% back on everything the second year (when the annual fee hits). Had to work for it though – it was the most detailed application ever, and now I just got an email asking for my signature on a document.
