Last night I got an interesting email from US Airways. First, let me say I’ve never flown with US Airways – like, ever. I do have the US Airways Premier Mastercard and I loved redeeming those miles for my trip to Sydney, but I have yet to actually step foot on a US Airways plane. So imagine my surprise when I got an email, congratulating me on achieving Silver Preferred status, good through February 2015.
US Airways Silver Preferred is the lowest status level and requires 25,000 miles or 30 segments flown. Members at this level get complimentary upgrades based on availability, first checked bag free, 25% bonus miles on paid flights, access to the Preferred Reservation Desk, Star Alliance Silver status/One World Ruby status, and various other perks.
These benefits are extended when I fly American Airlines. That’s actually great because I’m much more likely to fly American than US Airways.
I figured the email was a mistake, but I logged into my account and sure enough, it shows I’ve flown 0 miles, earned 0 elite qualifying miles, yet I have Silver Preferred status. I’m certainly not complaining, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
It didn’t happen for me or my husband. Glad they gave it to you, though! Hope it comes in handy. ๐
Thanks! I think it will definitely come in handy when I fly with AA.
Same surprise happened to me. I havenโt flown a paid US Airway flight for at least 10 years. Maybe it has to do with all the US Airway Dividend Miles I have collected through the US Airways credit cards, bonus point sales, etc. over the last four years and redeemed some. Like you, I also have the US Airways Premier Mastercard plus the US Airways business card.
That may be it. Though strangely, my brother has done more manufactured spending on his US Airways card and didn’t get this email. Like I said, I am not complaining. ๐
