Here’s how to transfer Hyatt awards to someone else

The ability to transfer Hyatt awards to another member is incredibly convenient. Whether it’s a free night, Club Access, or Guest of Honor perks, you can gift Hyatt awards easily to other members. Doing so is a great way to upgrade someone’s travel experience and provide them with perks they’d otherwise have to pay for.

Transferring Hyatt awards to another member can also be a great way to “redeem” them before they expire.

While it’s always been possible to transfer Hyatt awards to another account in some form, Hyatt made it official last year by enabling online transfers.

You might be wondering which awards are eligible for gifting and how exactly it’s done. I’ve got you covered. Here’s a complete overview of how to gift Hyatt awards to another member:

Which Hyatt awards can you gift to someone else?

You can gift almost any Hyatt award to another member, including Milestone Rewards, Brand Explorer Awards and free nights from the World of Hyatt Credit Card. Milestone Rewards are issued to Hyatt members based on the number of nights they complete in a year. Brand Explorer Awards are free nights issued when members stay at different Hyatt brands.

Here’s a closer look at Hyatt awards you can transfer to other members:

Free Night Awards

These are free nights issued to Hyatt credit cardholders for renewing the card and spending $15,000 per year. You can also choose free night awards as your Hyatt Milestone Reward after completing 30 nights or 50,00 Base Points.

Most free night awards are valid on Category 1-4 hotels, though they can go as high as Category 8 depending on when and how you earn them.

Club Access Awards

Club Access Awards allow you to upgrade a Hyatt stay to a club room for up to seven nights. These awards are valid on both paid and point stays. Hyatt Club rooms include more spacious rooms with premium amenities on higher floors and access to the hotel lounge.

You can earn two Club Access Awards as a Milestone Reward after completing 20 nights or earning 35,000 Base Points.

Suite Upgrade Awards

Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards are valid on stays of up to seven nights. They’re available after you complete 40 nights or earn 65,000 Base Points. You can earn additional Suite Upgrade Awards at the 50-night mark and beyond.

Miraval Extra Night Award

Book one eligible night at a Miraval resort and get the second night free. The Miraval Extra Night is available after completing 100 nights and is valid on both paid stays, free night awards, and Points + Cash bookings.

FIND Experience Credits

These credits can be used towards hotel activities, including spa treatments, cooking classes, and other experiences. FIND credits range from $25 to $300. Members can earn them starting at  20 nights or 35,000 Base Points.

Guest of Honor Award

Members earn Guest of Honor Awards after completing 40 nights or earning 65,000 Base Points. Members earn additional Guest of Honor awards after 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 130, and 140 nights.

These awards allow you to share Globalist benefits with another member on stays of up to seven nights. Examples include complimentary breakfast, space-available room upgrades, premium internet, early check-in, late checkout, and more. At some Hyatt hotels (most often Park Hyatts), the free breakfast applies to room service. It’s a nice treat that is otherwise marked up significantly.

How to transfer Hyatt awards, step by step

Hyatt makes transferring awards to other members incredibly easy. The entire process can be done online via the Hyatt website or mobile app or by calling Hyatt’s Global Care Center.

I recently gifted a Miraval Extra Night Award to a friend of a friend and it took less than a minute. The process is the same, no matter which qualifying award type you’re dealing with.

Keep in mind that once you transfer an award, it’s not reversible or transferable to another account. Also, the award’s original expiration date still applies.

With that out of the day, here’s how to transfer Hyatt awards, step-by-step:

Step 1: Log into your World of Hyatt account

Navigate to “My awards” under your profile.

Step 2: Gift your award

From the Awards page, you can transfer free nights, suite upgrade awards, or club access awards to another World of Hyatt member. Click on the three dots next to the award you want to transfer and select “Gift Your Award.”

Step 3: Start two-factor authentication

This action will trigger two-factor authentication. Select “send code” and check your email for a six-digit security code. This code will be valid for ten minutes.

Step 4: Enter the 2FA code

Enter the code on the requested page. You’ll be directed back to the “Award” page to repeat Step 2.  This time, when you select “Gift Your Award,” a box will appear. Enter the recipient’s membership number and last name. Click the “Continue” button.

Step 6: Confirm delivery

You’ll see a confirmation message when your transfer is complete. You’ll also receive an email confirmation when the award is successfully delivered.

The transfer process can take a couple of hours. In my case, I submitted a request at 10:38 p.m. and received an email confirming delivery at 1:46 p.m.

Can I transfer Hyatt points to another person?

In addition to Hyatt awards, you can also transfer Hyatt points to another person. Unfortunately, it’s not as quick and straightforward as transferring Hyatt awards. Transferring Hyatt points to another member involves filling out a point combining request form and emailing it to the email specified on the form. The transfer is managed by a third party and can take up to 30 days, though there are reports of Globalist Concierges processing point transfers instantly.

I once had a transfer request take three weeks to initiate. By then, I had already used the points and received an email notifying me they couldn’t complete the transfer because my balance was too low. So keep this in mind if you want to share Hyatt points with someone else.

If you need to share Hyatt points with someone for a last-minute booking, you can always try booking an award for them and adding them to the reservation. I’ve done this successfully for family members when I couldn’t wait several weeks for a transfer.
